Research and Innovation
One of the University of Sydney’s core activities is the creation and transmission of knowledge through research and through the education and training of postgraduate research students. This focus is rewarded by outstanding performance.
The University aims to develop its research capacity and reputation as the top research institution in Australia, among the top five in Asia and top 40 in world.
The University has an outstanding record in national competitive funding from both the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the National Health and Medical Research Council. Success in securing research funding underpins an approach to teaching which has won many nominations for excellence and resulted in high student satisfaction ratings.
The University emphasises postgraduate research – not only does it have the largest cohort of research higher degree students in the country, but it also has the highest number of research degree completions.
Sydney also has strong collaborative links with business and industry. Its Departments and Schools help to co-ordinate experience with business and industry for postgraduate students.
