Latest News – ARC & NHMRC Grants
The Faculty of Health Sciences has recorded its highest success to date in the 2008 research funding rounds. The Faculty achieved a higher success rate than ever before in each of the schemes and surpassed national averages with 25 per cent of ARC Discovery, 100 per cent of ARC Linkage, and 32 per cent of NHMRC submissions securing funding.
Investigators from the Faculty secured over $5.2 million in funding to be administered through the Faculty for research projects commencing in 2009. Our researchers are also integral to a number of projects funded through other institutions to a total of over $12.9 million.
Professor Johanna Westbrook and her Health Informatics team had outstanding results, securing the largest grants in Australia in both the ARC Discovery and ARC Linkages schemes, and an $8.4 million program grant from the NHMRC. This rare achievement demonstrates the potential of this research to drive dramatic improvements in the Australian health care system.
Particular success was also achieved by Professor Anita Bundy, Professor Mark Onslow, Associate Professor Ann Packman and Professor Stewart Enfield who all achieved ARC and NHMRC funding in the same year. A number of the Faculty’s early career researchers, including Anne Honey, Benedicte Vanwanseele, Zoe McKeough and Mark Hancock are recognised as key members of successful research teams.
