Creative learning and quality teaching
The Discipline of Medical Radiation Sciences is committed to creative learning and quality teaching.
Creative learning is demonstrated in the way that the staff enthusiastically embrace methods and learning strategies which encourage inquiry, creativity and critical reflections. Research led teaching is a University focus and staff use the results of their educational research in their teaching and share their outcomes with colleagues. Staff engaged in discipline research readily incorporate their methods and outcomes into their teaching so that students are able to appreciate the very latest knowledge affecting their practice. Curriculum development and curriculum mapping is a constant feature of the Discipline not only to incorporate changes in the workplace and to improve delivery of material but also to ensure that students experience a variety of learning activities.
Quality teaching is demonstrated by the Discipline's record of research grants in learning and teaching, educational publications and teaching excellence awards. Quality teaching involves positive interaction with students and the School encourages students to be actively involved in their learning and teaching. Students complete Unit of Study evaluations which provide useful feedback for staff and are responded to effectively and efficiently. Staff meetings and colloquia are frequently concerned with issues of improving quality in learning and teaching. Of particular concern is student workload and every effort is made to maintain a consistent workload for each Unit of Study in each of the courses. Meetings to discuss the timing and content of assessment tasks take place at the end of every semester and students are invited to these meetings to contribute and provide feedback.
Staff in the Discipline of Medical Radiation Sciences very effectively demonstrate the Faculty of Health Sciences Strategic Directions 2005-2010 which emphasises creative learning and quality teaching.
