The Discipline of Health Informatics at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Sydney provides Australia, and increasingly Asia and the world, with prepare potential health informatics professionals. Our mission is to educate and prepare potential health information management professionals more effectively than any other Australian university.

The Discipline of Health Informatics situates the key health disciplines within their social contexts. In doing so, we give scholarship, teaching and research the interdisciplinary breadth, relevance and influence which is the foundation of our prestigious position at the centre of health education in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Master of Health Informatics is designed for students wanting to pursue a career as a health informatics specialist, as well as for health professionals aiming to improve their knowledge and skills in this developing field of expertise.

Research Program Information

The PhD program is designed to provide graduates with the opportunity to undertake in-depth study in a specialised area related to their research interests and expertise.

The PhD is awarded for a thesis judged to be a substantially original contribution to the subject concerned. Note: Some coursework may be required, but in no case is it a major component.

A wide range of research is undertaken within the Health Informatics and Statistics Group, reflecting staff expertise and interests.
