Postgraduate Study Options

The faculty offers two main categories of postgraduate programs: coursework and research.

Coursework Programs

Coursework programs involve learning via face-to-face lectures, clinical and professional education, online study and/or distance education, or a combination of these modes. Assessments are usually in the form of assignments, exams, group work projects and presentations.

There are two types of coursework programs offered by the faculty:

Graduate Entry Master's

The graduate entry master's (GEMs) are two-year professional preparation courses that provide a 'right of practice' on graduation. They qualify graduates to practice in Australia and abroad. Many of the programs are open to graduates from a range of backgrounds, not just those related to health.

Specialist Master's

These advanced coursework programs are designed for graduates who want to progress in their chosen field by developing specialised professional knowledge and skills. They are ideal for practitioners from a range of medical, nursing, dental, allied health, social work, behavioural science, educational and other professions.

Research Programs

Research programs involve studying research methods and in-depth research in specialized areas. A research student usually undertakes a major thesis under the supervision of a faculty staff member. A small coursework component may be included in some programs.
