Exercise and Sport Science
A degree in Exercise and Sport Science opens up exciting and diverse career paths for graduates, allowing them to integrate exercise and physical activity into health, sport performance, disease prevention and rehabilitation.
This is a science degree with an exercise flavour, where you will gain a comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles of human movement.
You will learn about nutrition; the metabolic processes of the body; the physiological demands of movement on the heart, lungs and muscles; the mechanical stresses of movement on the body; the psychological demands of learning and performance; and the importance of the social environment.
This knowledge of the metabolic, physiological, mechanical and psychological factors that govern movement enables the exercise and sport scientist to evaluate physical capacity and performance, and to design and manage exercise and training programs in the areas of health and sport.
The degree will give you the opportunity to work in different areas such as:
- Exercise prescription for the healthy population and people with, or at risk of, chronic disease
- Sport performance with athletes
- Rehabilitation
- Fitness Industry
- Occupational Health and Safety
Graduates may also consider a career in research by going on to study for an Honours, Masters or PhD degree in Exercise and Sport Science.
There is also the potential to use this degree as a basis for further study in other fields such as Nutrition and Dietetics, Medicine, Physiotherapy or Teaching.
