About the Disability Initiative
Vision statement

The Disability Initiative promotes, develops and provides education and research of the highest standard to improve the health, wellbeing and participation of people with disability.
Core Purposes
The core purposes of the Disability Initiative are to:
- provide education to the highest standard
- produce research at the highest standard
- apply this education and research to improve the health and well being of individuals and the community
Core Themes
From 2006-2008 the Disability Initiative will focus on two key themes, namely:
- Ageing and Health
- A Healthy Start to Life
Core Research Areas
- Community Participation
- Health and Wellbeing
- Transitions of Care
- Early Intervention
Aims
The aims of the Disability Initiative are to:
- Develop teaching and research partnerships within and across the University to build strength in research and teaching in disability
- Develop partnerships with government, non-government and community groups
- Focus on enhancing collaboration across the University and government and community groups outside the University
- Promote and conduct research in the areas of Ageing and Health and A Healthy Start to Life
