About the Discipline
The Discipline of Discipline of Behavioural and Social Sciences in was established in 1999 following amalgamation of the Department of Behavioural Sciences and the School of Community Health. The Discipline has a twofold role within the Faculty of Health Sciences:
- To provide a bio-psycho-social perspective to all students undertaking the courses within the Faculty. This involves providing students with knowledge of human behaviour, particularly within the context of health services and the social environment. Behavioural and Social Science includes the areas of Psychology, Sociology, Research Methods, and Statistics
- To provide a range of professional practice courses at the Graduate and Undergraduate level. Graduate programs are offered in Behavioural Health Science, Education, Child and Adolescent Health, and Gerontology.
The Discipline has multi disciplinary research focus in the areas of:
- Ageing and human development
- Disability and community
- Clinical and rehabilitation
- Exercise health and performance
- Medical imaging and radiation sciences
- Health informatics and statistics
This research expertise is reflected in the number of students undertaking research programs at Master's and Doctoral levels.
