This team of researchers conducts a range of social research projects in the area of health and equity. Drawing on social scientific approaches and methods, most of the studies have a strong policy focus.

Major research projects are being undertaken in the following areas:

  • Workplace health
  • Public health and electronic media
  • Health and community service responses to trafficked women in Australia
  • Community-based mental health services for women
  • Maternity services policy and its implementation throughout Australia

The group includes approximately 20 post-graduate research students. Some of the topics pursued by doctoral candidates are:

  • Borderline personality disorder and its gendered construction
  • Occupational rehabilitation and injury management in NSW since 1987
  • Allied health professionals' understanding of the needs of visually impaired people
  • Rural health policy in China and access to health care among Miao older people
  • Growing up Lebanese in Australia: The health experience of young Lebanese-Australian adults
  • Mental health professionals' experiences of using dialectical behaviour therapy
  • Health service responses to men with depression and suicidal ideation
  • The social construction of early motherhood
