Ageing, Health and Services

This team focuses primarily on large scale surveys including:

  • MELSHA-Pathways of health and aged care through later life (Hal Kendig & Rob Pedlow)
  • Seniors Living Project-Retirement Housing (David Kennedy)
  • Working longer: Policy reforms and practice innovations (Philip Bohle)
  • ABBA -The baby boom cohort and retirement planning and impacts (Kate O’Loughlin & Nancy Humpel)

The aim of our research team is to foster & conduct multi-disciplinary research of excellence and importance for an ageing Australia. Our research across the ageing, health and services topic areas is funded by the Australian Research Council, National Health & Medical Research Council, and other external research funding research bodies and organisations.

Our research recognises the value of collaborating with older people themselves, their representatives, consumer organisations, service providers and government. The team works with international collaborators in developing cross national comparisons that provide valuable vantage on an ageing Australia.

The research has a strong focus on emerging researchers including mentorship of post doctoral students, lecturers and PhD students who are developing their research capacities.

We work closely with the ARC/NHMRC Research Network in Ageing Well, which has its hub here at the University of Sydney and the University of Sydney Centre for Education and Research on Ageing at Concord Hospital and other faculties in the University.
