Our Mission

The Faculty of Health Sciences seeks the highest possible level of health for people, in both its immediate community and the wider population, by providing the highest standard of education and research and applying that knowledge to the improvement of people’s health.

About the Faculty

The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Sydney is the largest health sciences faculty in Australia consisting of ten disciplines, six research groups and two research centres. We provide professional preparation programs for a comprehensive range of health science professionals, as well as generic degrees in health science.

Excelling in our research…

Through our multidisciplinary approach, the faculty excels in research in the areas of:

  • rehabilitation;
  • disability;
  • healthy ageing;
  • preventative health care;
  • exercise, health and performance and
  • managing and communicating health information.

The pioneering work conducted by our research teams has an enormous impact on the health and quality of life of our community; from increasing mobility and functional independence for spinal cord and stroke patients, to developing the world’s first evidence-based stuttering treatment for pre-school children, a therapy now used throughout the world.

Leading the way with our learning and teaching…

The faculty is leading the way in moving towards a graduate model of allied health education in line with national and international developments. This sees an increasing proportion of our students completing their professional preparation at a postgraduate level through our two-year graduate entry master’s programs after first completing an undergraduate degree such as the Bachelor of Health Sciences. This model produces mature and dedicated graduates who are well equipped to take on challenging positions in industry, health services and research.

The faculty will continue to offer a suite of high prestige undergraduate professional preparation programs for direct entry into the profession for our high achieving students.

As well as higher degree research programs, a range of advanced learning coursework master’s are available for graduates who want to progress in their chosen profession by developing specialised professional knowledge and skills.
